Moonbirds is an NFT project that made quite a splash when it began trading in April 2022. The Moonbirds NFT collection is made up of some 10,000 utility-enabled NFTs created by PROOF Collective.
In the latter part of April 2022, Moonbirds was the top NFT collection for a time, outpacing Bored Apes Yacht Club and CryptoPunks in terms of sales volume. Within five days, Moonbirds passed $360 million in sales within striking distance of accumulating 40% of all NFT sales in a single week.
What Is PROOF Collective?
PROOF is a group that includes high-profile NFT players including Beeple and Gary Vaynerchuck. Founding members of the collective include Ryan Carson, Justin Mezell, and Kevin Rose.
This is a group that is proud of being early adopters and early investors in NFTs; the PROOF official site reminds collectors that its members, “were early collectors of some of the most sought-after NFT projects” and there is a strong emphasis in this project on the power of the collective. “We believe in group bottoms-up-driven research. A collective working together is stronger than any single member,” according to the PROOF site.

And to that end, PROOF engages in collaborative projects such as Grails: Choose Wisely, with an interesting gimmick. This collaboration features 20 artists and 20 works of art, offered as an exclusive mint for members of PROOF.
The artwork is created especially for the Grails NFT drop, and the twist here is that the artists will remain a mystery until the artwork is made available. These artists, PROOF promises, are “some of the top artists in the space”.
Getting into PROOF isn’t as easy as other NFT collectives; this private group is only a thousand members strong and the membership fee has a floor price of over 100 ETH.
According to its official website, PROOF’s mission is to bring together the most innovative minds in the NFT community, including early collectors and strategic decision-makers. PROOF’s members own a collective of 153,940 NFTs, including over 800 Bored Apes, 5,2888 Art Blocks, nearly 500 MeeBits, and 148 CryptoPunks.
What Are Moonbirds NFTs?

These are NFTs with utility. The official secondary market page on OpenSea.io describes this collection as featuring “richly diverse” with a “unique pool of rarity-powered traits”. The utility for these NFTs include getting access to the private Moonbirds club, and there are more perks offered based on the length of time you have been a member.
That perk structure is known in the Moonbirds collective as “nesting”, and this can be done once the NFT is added to a crypto wallet. Over time, Moonbirds owners become eligible for more perks, higher tiers in the plan, and unique bonuses for being a long-haul owner.
Moonbirds have a floor price of just over 23 ETH at press time. The 10,000 NFTs in the collection are held by some six thousand owners with over 130,000 in trading volume at the time of this writing. Three NFTs from this project have made it into the “top most expensive” lists for weekly NFT sales.
Moonbirds Utility
- PROOF’s private Collective Discord server and associated rewards
- First access on PROOF’s upcoming metaverse project, Project Highrise
- Priority access to future Proof NFT projects
- Access to real-world meetings and events
- Full commercial rights to the IP (intellectual property) of the NFT
- The ability to stake, or “Nest” as the project devs call it, an NFT. Nesting a Moonbirds NFT entails locking the NFT (making it untradeable) without the need to transfer it to a vault for safekeeping. Nesting the Moonbird accrues additional benefits, achies new tier levels, and even upgrades their nest to become more profitable which will in turn yield even more enhanced drops and rewards.
- Moonbirds is issuing a Moonbirds Oddities airdrop to NFT nesters stakers.
Moonbirds Oddities
Oddities is a collection of 10,000 Moonbird pellets and was created in collaboration with CrypToadz artist Gremplin. The collection is expected to be revealed in July this year.
Oddities first Tweets was “10,000 fanciful treats make for unsavory pellet pals…” and “in the nest, the oddities will appear”.
Moonbirds has a plan to distribute all unclaimed Oddities NFTs to “a diverse set of collectors – women, people of color, and underrepresented groups.”
